Cooking method

Cooking time: 2 h

For the preparation of this dish, I most often take pork. It's better to have it with fat. But often I replace it with some other meat - it does not matter, the royal potatoes will still turn out delicious, for example, bacon will be perfect (but in this case, keep in mind that the cooking time will be less).

I put raw pork in a saucepan, pour water, add salt and spices and cook for half an hour. You can also do this in a slow cooker by selecting the appropriate mode.

Then you need to get the meat and cut it into medium-sized pieces. I heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the pieces of meat on high heat until an appetizing golden crust forms. I put the meat together with the oil in which it was cooked in a baking dish, previously covered with foil.

I peel new potatoes (in the cold season, you can take the potatoes that are at hand), cut them into large slices. I peel a large onion and cut it into half rings, or you can cut it into large enough pieces. It depends on your preferences. Now chopped potatoes and onions can be combined with mayonnaise, salt and spices. I rub 100 g of cheese on a coarse grater, add it to the potatoes. I mix, add a few peas of pepper and spread it all on top of the meat.

I cut a tomato – first into quarters, then each quarter into two more parts. I put the tomato slices in a baking dish. I pour everything on top with a glass of broth left over from cooking meat, and send the future royal potatoes to bake in the oven. The cooking time at 200 degrees is about an hour, but if you are cooking for the first time, check the dish from time to time for readiness, especially if the potatoes are young.

When the potatoes are almost completely ready, sprinkle them on top with the remaining cheese, grated on a coarse grater. Wait until the cheese melts and is covered with a beautiful crust. Royal potatoes can be taken out of the oven and served to the table until they have cooled down. Bon appetit!
