  • For this simple yet delicious dish you'll need white bread or a plain loaf. You can really use any bread you like — whole-grain or special toasting bread. A pre-sliced loaf is especially handy here: the slices come out even and look prettier. If your bread isn't sliced, cut it into fairly thin pieces, about 1/2 inch (1 cm) thick. Crack the eggs into a separate bowl, add the sugar and a little salt (the salt rounds out the flavor), and whisk everything together thoroughly with a hand whisk or mixer until the sugar and salt fully dissolve into the eggs. Then pour a little room-temperature milk into the beaten egg mixture along with the vanilla sugar and whisk the milk and eggs together well again. Set a heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat, add a little vegetable oil, and get it good and hot. Take a slice of bread, dip it into the egg-and-milk mixture on both sides, and lay it in the hot skillet. Fry on one side for a couple of minutes until golden, then flip and do the other side. Repeat with each slice. Transfer the fried toast to a paper-towel-lined plate to blot the excess oil. Serve the sweet toast right away, hot, with freshly brewed tea or fragrant coffee — the perfect start to the day!
  • For the kids, serve the toast with warm milk or cocoa. The little ones are sure to love this tasty, out-of-the-ordinary breakfast. Enjoy!
