Pork Belly Baked in Two Sauces
A tasty, fragrant pork belly appetizer. Oven-baked pork belly is a delicious dish loved by many, and there are countless ways to make it. Today I want to share my favorite: pork belly baked in two sauces that give it a glossy, savory-sweet glaze.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Gather all the ingredients for the oven-baked pork belly. Use your favorite tomato sauce, or swap in tomato ketchup. Any style of mustard works, mild or hot. Rinse the pork belly under running water, pat it dry with a paper towel, and scrape the skin clean with a knife.
-
Step 2:
In a deep bowl, stir together the tomato sauce, soy sauce, mustard, honey, oil, salt, and ground black pepper. The marinade should be glossy and smooth. Using a silicone brush, coat the pork belly with the marinade on all sides and let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
-
Step 3:
Transfer the pork belly to a baking dish and pour in a little water.
-
Step 4:
Scatter the sliced garlic and torn bay leaf over the pork belly, then bake for 40 minutes at 350°F (180°C) without convection. Take the pork belly out of the oven, brush it with the remaining marinade, and return it to bake for another 20 to 25 minutes. Serve it hot or cold, it's just as good either way.
-
Step 5:
The oven-baked pork belly in two sauces is ready. Enjoy!
- Pork belly is the cut of meat that sits over the ribs of the pig. It's marbled with a good amount of fat and a thin membrane, which is what makes it so rich. It can be fried, braised, baked, cured, or smoked, though it's most often baked, braised, or fried. The meat is frequently cut away from the bones, with the ribs cooked separately. Pork belly can be served on its own or with a vegetable side, most commonly potatoes, cabbage, or beans. It pairs beautifully with a wide range of foods, especially vegetables (potatoes, cabbage, legumes), mushrooms, sweet-and-sour and spicy sauces, cheese, nuts, and most herbs and spices.
