Sweet Oladyi with Milk and Dry Yeast

Make truly fluffy oladyi (thick pancakes) for breakfast. Hot off the skillet, golden and tender, made from a wheat-flour batter and served with sour cream or jam — fragrant and always welcome. Some call them puffs, some call them doughnuts, but real oladyi made the classic way have a flavor all their own. They're not hard to make, and one morning your home will fill with the wonderful smell of freshly made oladyi with sour cream and fresh berries, rounded out with a cup of hot coffee or tea.

Cooking method

    Sift the flour, add the sugar, salt, and yeast, and mix.

    Make a well in the flour, add 1 egg and the milk, and mix thoroughly until smooth.

    Heat a skillet and pour in 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Spoon the batter into the pan, spacing the pancakes a little apart. Dip the spoon in cold water each time before scooping the batter, so it won't stick to the spoon.
