Onion with Egg and Mayonnaise

In 5 minutes you can not only make this dish, but eat it too! It's a real go-to lifesaver. You can cook it on a stovetop, a wood stove, or even over a campfire (say, when the power's out at the cabin and the gas canister turns out to be empty). It's handy for someone standing at a stove for the very first time (it's that easy) and for seasoned cooks alike, since it can be a component of all sorts of dishes. I'll add that it's not only good on its own but goes with just about everything. With such easy-to-find ingredients and such simple prep, everyone can try it for themselves and see if they like it. I hope you will...

Cooking method

Cooking time: 5 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

Get your ingredients ready: vegetable oil, an onion, an egg, and mayonnaise. It makes a small portion. Keep everything close to the stove — it's more convenient that way, and for those lucky enough to have a big kitchen, consider it strongly recommended.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Before we get to the onion, set a skillet over the lowest heat and add the oil — just enough to coat the pan. Leave it to warm up. Meanwhile, peel the onion and dice it.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Add the onion to the skillet.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Take a heaping spoonful of mayonnaise and dollop it onto the onion already in the pan.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Now crack the egg right into the pan over everything.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Steady the pan (just don't burn yourself) and stir everything together. Turn up the heat — personally I like it all the way up — and keep stirring, but don't overdo it. The mixture should turn fluffy. As with scrambled eggs, cook it to your own taste.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

And the dish is ready. Enjoy!
