Pork Burek
This unusual, lasagna-like dish is well worth a try. Delicious and out of the ordinary — it really does remind you of lasagna. The original recipe calls for brushing the layers generously with oil. I skipped that, since the pork is already plenty rich.
You can find out how to make the homemade seasoning that goes into this dish from a separate recipe on the site.

Cooking method
- Cut the onion into small cubes and sauté in oil until soft. Grate the carrots, add them to the onion, and sauté together. Cool, then combine with the meat (run through a meat grinder), pepper, salt, and homemade seasoning, and mix well. Roll the pastry out thin and cut it into 4 pieces. Lay a sheet of pastry in the bottom of an oiled baking dish, top with a layer of the meat filling, and continue layering the remaining pastry and filling. Cover with a final sheet of pastry and pour over a mixture of the kefir, egg, water with salt and baking soda (in place of the sparkling water, which I didn't have), and oil. Bake the burek at 400°F (200°C) for 25 minutes. As soon as the crust starts to darken, switch the oven to bottom heat only and lower the temperature to 265°F (130°C). All told, mine spent a little over an hour in the oven. Serve hot, cut into portions. You can also make a sauce — I mixed sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic pressed through a garlic press, and finely chopped dill.
