- Cut the meat into small pieces and put it in a bowl. 2. Slice the onion into rings and add it to the meat. 3. Season with salt and spices to taste. 4. Add the apple cider vinegar and vegetable oil. 5. Mix everything together. 6. Cover the bowl of meat with plastic wrap. 7. Let the meat marinate in the fridge for 1½–2 hours. 8. Soak wooden skewers in water so they don't burn in the oven while the kebabs cook. 9. After 1½–2 hours, peel and slice the potatoes into rounds about ¼ inch (0.5 cm) thick. 10. Grease a baking dish with vegetable oil. 11. Arrange the potatoes in the dish and season with salt. 12. Take the wooden skewers out of the water and thread the meat onto them, alternating with onion rings. 13. Lay the kebabs and any remaining onion over the potatoes. 14. Add just a little water to the dish and cover with foil. 15. Bake in an oven preheated to 350°F (180°C) for 40 minutes. 16. Fifteen minutes before the end, remove the foil and finish baking uncovered until golden brown. Enjoy! Done right, oven kebabs with potatoes are nearly indistinguishable from grilled ones — you just bake the meat on wooden skewers instead of metal ones. Classically you'd use chicken or pork, though beef or lamb work too, as long as the meat is fresh. Total time, not counting the marinade, is about 40–50 minutes. This recipe gives you tender, juicy meat and fragrant, flavorful potatoes. Love kebabs outdoors, golden potatoes, and the smell of grilled meat and browned onions? Then this homemade kebab-and-potato recipe, easy to pull off at home, is exactly what you need — especially when it's not grilling season but you're craving that summer-picnic feeling. Break out the pickles and set a "summer" table! The unforgettable flavor of homemade kebabs will take you right back to a real backyard cookout.
