Easy Baked Liver Cake with Vegetables and Sour Cream Topping
An easy, no-fuss recipe—a baked liver cake with vegetables! A handful of simple ingredients turns into an incredibly tasty, hearty, fit-for-a-king dish. There's no need to fry liver crepes one by one in a pan—the whole cake simply bakes in the oven.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
LIVER MIXTURE: Grind the liver through a meat grinder or puree it in a blender. Add the milk.
-
Step 2:
Add the semolina.
-
Step 3:
Stir and let it stand for half an hour so the semolina can swell.
-
Step 4:
VEGETABLE MIXTURE: Peel the onion and slice it into half rings. Put it in an oiled skillet and fry over low heat, stirring.
-
Step 5:
Peel and coarsely grate the carrots. Add them to the onion. Simmer the vegetables over low heat until tender, stirring.
-
Step 6:
At the end, season with salt and pepper and let cool.
-
Step 7:
ASSEMBLING THE CAKE: Season the liver mixture with salt and pepper and whisk it smooth. Grease a 10-inch (26 cm) round pan with oil. Spread in half of the liver mixture.
-
Step 8:
Spread the vegetables on top and press down gently with a spatula.
-
Step 9:
Spread the second half of the liver mixture over the top and bake for 20 minutes at 350°F (180°C).
-
Step 10:
TOPPING: Combine the sour cream and egg and whisk together.
-
Step 11:
Pour it over the liver and bake for another 30 minutes at 350°F (180°C).
-
Step 12:
Bake until nicely golden brown. Let it cool a little before serving. It's especially delicious cold. Garnish with fresh herbs or however you like.
-
Step 13:
Here's what the cake looks like sliced. Enjoy!
