Easy Baked Liver Cake with Vegetables and Sour Cream Topping

An easy, no-fuss recipe—a baked liver cake with vegetables! A handful of simple ingredients turns into an incredibly tasty, hearty, fit-for-a-king dish. There's no need to fry liver crepes one by one in a pan—the whole cake simply bakes in the oven.

Cooking method

    LIVER MIXTURE: Grind the liver through a meat grinder or puree it in a blender. Add the milk.

    Add the semolina.

    Stir and let it stand for half an hour so the semolina can swell.

    VEGETABLE MIXTURE: Peel the onion and slice it into half rings. Put it in an oiled skillet and fry over low heat, stirring.

    Peel and coarsely grate the carrots. Add them to the onion. Simmer the vegetables over low heat until tender, stirring.

    At the end, season with salt and pepper and let cool.

    ASSEMBLING THE CAKE: Season the liver mixture with salt and pepper and whisk it smooth. Grease a 10-inch (26 cm) round pan with oil. Spread in half of the liver mixture.

    Spread the vegetables on top and press down gently with a spatula.

    Spread the second half of the liver mixture over the top and bake for 20 minutes at 350°F (180°C).

    TOPPING: Combine the sour cream and egg and whisk together.

    Pour it over the liver and bake for another 30 minutes at 350°F (180°C).

    Bake until nicely golden brown. Let it cool a little before serving. It's especially delicious cold. Garnish with fresh herbs or however you like.
