  • Lent is coming up soon, and with it a stretch when a whole range of foods is off the menu. But that's no reason to give up on delicious, wholesome food. Here's a simple recipe for cabbage fritters you're sure to enjoy — and you'll happily eat them outside of Lent, too. Start by washing and finely shredding the cabbage. Take a deep skillet, pour in the milk-and-water mixture, and heat it over medium heat. Once it's warm, add the shredded cabbage and simmer, covered, for about 15 minutes. Then remove the lid and continue cooking the cabbage until fully tender. Take it off the heat, let it cool, and salt to taste. Now add the egg, flour, and sweet paprika to the cabbage and mix. Heat oil in a skillet and cook the fritters, spooning out the batter with a tablespoon or ladle; fry them on both sides until golden. Once all the fritters are done, serve them alongside a side dish of potatoes or rice. Enjoy!
