Beef with Prunes in Melted Fat
Beef with prunes is an original, fragrant, and delicious dish! I got this recipe from my mom's old recipe notebook. These days you can find any recipe online, but back then people collected and kept their favorites in notebooks just like that one. It's simple and comes together fairly quickly, and it makes a wonderful centerpiece for a holiday table.

Cooking method
- So, let's get started! Set a skillet with the fat over the heat and get it good and hot. Cut the meat into small, even pieces, season with salt and pepper, and brown it in the fat. Next, fry the onion until golden and add it to the meat. Stir the tomato paste into the water, pour the mixture over the meat, cover, and simmer over low heat for 50 to 70 minutes. Add the rinsed prunes and simmer for about another half hour. Ten minutes before it's done, add the spices, salt, and a bay leaf to taste. And it's ready! Serve it with a side, spooning over the sauce the meat cooked in. My favorite side for this is mashed potatoes. Enjoy!
