Salad with Carrots, Crab Sticks, and Egg
Bright, colorful, fresh, and very tasty! This salad with carrots, crab sticks, and egg is made from simple ingredients and turns out beautiful and appetizing. You can serve it for the holidays or just for a family dinner.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make a salad with carrots, crab sticks, and egg? Get the ingredients ready. Choose good-quality crab sticks so the flavor of the finished dish doesn't disappoint. Thaw them ahead of time, peel off the wrapping, and cut into medium cubes.
-
Step 2:
Boil the eggs and carrot. Cook the eggs for 10 minutes, then cool them in cold water so they peel easily. Cook the carrot for 30 minutes; check for doneness with a knife — it should pierce the carrot easily. The ingredients should be cool by the time you start putting the salad together.
-
Step 3:
Peel the eggs and cut them into cubes the same size as the crab sticks. Peel the carrot and cut it into cubes the same size as the eggs and crab sticks too. This is purely for looks — it won't change the flavor of the salad at all. To cut up the eggs and carrot, I used a round grid cutter with square openings — it's fast, and the cubes all come out the same size and shape.
-
Step 4:
Now that everything is ready, assemble the salad. It takes exactly one minute. Put the eggs, crab sticks, carrot, and canned corn into a deep bowl or other suitable dish. Drain the corn in a sieve first so the excess liquid runs off.
-
Step 5:
Add salt to taste and the mayonnaise. Mix everything well and taste again for salt, adjusting if needed. The flavor of the salad also depends on the corn, so choose a juicy, sweet kind. Mayonnaise varies too — use a good one you've tried and trust. The salad is ready. Garnish it with herbs and serve. Enjoy!
- It's better to serve and eat this salad right away — it doesn't need to soak; it's much tastier fresh. You can use sour cream instead of mayonnaise.
- It's better to make mayonnaise yourself — it'll be tastier and healthier. See the interesting homemade mayonnaise recipes here. You can also use not just mayonnaise as a dressing, but sour cream or plain yogurt. Use them on their own or mixed with mayonnaise in any proportion you like — that will cut the calorie count of the dish.
- How do you buy crab sticks the right way? Always check the product's expiration date. Surimi (minced white fish) should be first on the ingredient list. Important! Don't buy the product if it has frost on it — that's a sign it's been refrozen. Fresh sticks should have no gray or yellow spots, be springy, and slightly moist. If they're sticky, they've gone bad.
- How do you buy canned corn the right way? Always check the expiration date on the can. If the container is glass, look closely at the kernels. They should be the same size and color, whole and unblemished. The ingredients shouldn't include dyes, preservatives, or flavor enhancers.
