Cooking method

Cooking time: 25 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

Gather everything you need to make the salad. Choose the ripest, sweetest tomatoes. If you don't have fresh herbs, you can use dried. I'm going to add dried basil to the salad. The peppers will be more fragrant if you grind them with a mill directly into the salad.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Peel the onion and rinse it in cold water. Then cut the peeled onion into thin rings. If you use large onions, you can cut them into half-rings.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Put the chopped onion in a deep dish and cover it with the water-and-vinegar mixture. I use 9% vinegar. Why soak the onion? The onion marinates well in vinegar and becomes very tasty and fragrant. Leave the onion to stand for 15-20 minutes. Then drain off the liquid and rinse it once with cold water.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Wash the tomatoes under running water. Cut each tomato in half, cut out the stem end with a sharp knife, and slice it thinly.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Put the tomatoes in a salad bowl. Add fresh or dried herbs. You can use any bowl - plastic, glass, or ceramic.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Then add the pickled onion to the salad. Salt the salad a little and add the ground peppers.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Dress the salad with olive oil. You can use sunflower oil instead of olive oil.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

Mix the salad thoroughly and chill it a little in the fridge. Before serving, transfer the salad to a salad bowl. Serve this fragrant tomato and onion salad with pilaf. It complements a hearty pilaf perfectly with its juiciness and freshness. Enjoy!

  • The constant features of this salad are tomatoes and a sharp note. For that, we add onion. In general, that's enough. But if you love really spicy dishes, you can add hot pepper to the salad. To be clear, though, that ingredient is optional, since not everyone can have such spicy add-ins for health reasons.
