Step 1:
How to cook millet porridge in a slow cooker on water? Prepare the products. I specially weighed them on the scales so that you know their exact number. But in general, the proportions are very simple — take two volumes of water for one volume of cereals. It does not matter what you will measure the volumes with — multi-glasses or ordinary dishes.
Step 2:
First of all, sort out the millet, separating the garbage and the red unopened grains. Then rinse the millet. I usually pour it into a wide bowl and pour warm water from the tap. Look how dirty the first water is. It is muddy, even the millet is not visible. Rinse the cereal thoroughly with your hands, drain the water.
Step 3:
In this way, rinse the millet in several waters, each time draining dirty water and pouring fresh. When the water becomes clear and the millet gets a bright yellow color, you can stop.
Step 4:
Drain the last water from the millet. Additionally, you can also scald the cereal with boiling water so that it does not taste bitter after cooking. This method will get rid of bitterness.
Step 5:
Pour the prepared grits into the bowl of the slow cooker. Add salt to taste. Put half of the total amount of butter on top, cut into cubes.
Step 6:
Fill the cereal with clean water. Take for these purposes good quality water, filtered or bottled. Tap water contains many additives that will give an unpleasant taste to the finished dish.
Step 7:
Place the bowl in the slow cooker. Set the mode suitable for cooking cereals. On my model, this is the "Buckwheat" mode, on others there is a special one called "Grits". If you have a cooking time set, select 30 minutes. My mode is automatic. When the slow cooker finishes working and the alarm sounds, open the lid and put the remaining oil in the hot porridge. If you have time, you can leave it to sweat under the closed lid for another half hour.
Step 8:
Mix the porridge with butter. You can put it on plates and serve it to the table. Enjoy your meal!
