The famous liqueur can be made at home! . Kalua liqueur is a Mexican coffee liqueur. Why coffee? It's very simple: it is made on the basis of vodka tincture for coffee. This liqueur is considered a dessert drink, so it is often included in various cocktails, as well as added to desserts and pastries. There are different types of kalua depending on the ingredients and the type of coffee. And also it can be of different strength: from 20 to 35%. For cooking, you should choose high-quality ground coffee, the taste of the finished drink largely depends on it.

Cooking method

1. In a clean glass container (it can be an ordinary jar), pour ground coffee, add spices: anise, cloves and cinnamon. Also at this stage, add the right amount of vanilla sugar.

2. Pour the prepared ingredients with vodka. We close the container tightly with a lid and send it to a dark place.It can be a cellar or a basement. Instead of vodka, you can use alcohol diluted to the desired strength.

3. We insist vodka on coffee and spices for 12 days. Periodically shake the container with the contents.

4. After the specified time, the tincture is filtered through a sieve or through gauze folded in a couple of layers.

5. Pour sugar into a saucepan, fill with water. We send the saucepan to the fire, let the sugar completely dissolve. Cook the syrup for 5 minutes, then remove from heat.

6. Cool the syrup to room temperature, then combine with coffee tincture. We close the container with a lid again and send it back to a dark place. This time we insist the liquor for 30 days.

7. The finished drink is bottled, stored in the refrigerator.

Mexican coffee liqueur Kalua perfectly combines to taste with cream and milk, with coconut milk and with coffee. Depending on personal taste preferences, this liqueur is drunk in its pure form with ice, added to coffee or tea. They are also poured over ice cream, added to brownies, cupcakes and sweet pies.
