Cooking method

  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

Gather the ingredients for making homemade apple jam for winter. You'll need a minimal set of ingredients: apples, granulated sugar, and water. The amounts given make about 500 ml of jam. It's best to use juicy, slightly sweet apples with a bright aroma and moderately soft flesh. Hard, dry apples may not break down, and the jam won't be as appetizing.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Wash the apples thoroughly, cut each apple into quarters with a sharp knife, peel each quarter, and remove the core.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Cut the peeled apple flesh into thin slices and put it in a saucepan (a heavy-bottomed one is strongly recommended).

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Add the water and half the sugar to the apple slices in the saucepan. Depending on the apple variety, you may need a little more water. If the apples aren't very juicy, add more water.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Stirring, bring the apples, water, and sugar to a boil. Cook the mixture over low heat for about 30 minutes. The apples should start to break down a little. Don't forget to stir the jam!

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Add the remaining sugar to the apples, stir, and cook over low heat for another 60 minutes. The jam will gradually get thicker and thicker.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Again, don't forget to stir the apple jam!

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

While the jam cooks, prepare your canning jars. Wash jars of the right size thoroughly in hot water with a little baking soda, then carefully pour boiling water over the jars and lids.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9

Fill the sterilized jars with the hot apple jam. Seal them tightly with sterilized lids.

  10. Step 10:

    Step 10

Without turning them over, wrap the jars in a warm blanket, throw, or cloth and leave them like that until they cool completely. Store the finished jam in a dark, dry place.

  • You can tweak the flavor and aroma of the jam and give it new notes by adding a pinch of ground cinnamon or some vanilla sugar.
