Delicious Semolina Porridge with Milk
Getting a kid to eat porridge is hard — you need a really tasty one. And this is it! For many people, semolina porridge is a recipe that's a symbol of childhood. But what if your child can't stand the gluey stuff? Chances are you're just not making it right.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
To make lump-free semolina porridge with milk, get out the semolina, milk, salt, and butter — and if you like it sweet, add sugar too. Keep in mind that everyone likes their porridge a different thickness, so decide how much semolina to use for yourself. The liquid ratio for a "standard" semolina porridge is: 1 heaping tablespoon of semolina per 1 cup of water or milk.
-
Step 2:
Pour the milk and water into a saucepan and bring to a boil.
-
Step 3:
Measure out the semolina into a cup. The moment the milk boils, turn down the heat and pour in the semolina in a very thin stream, stirring the pan constantly the whole time. This is the only way to avoid those lumps kids hate.
-
Step 4:
Right away, add the sugar and a pinch of salt, stir, and take the porridge off the heat. Cover the pan tightly and let it sit for 10–15 minutes. Under the steam trapped by the lid, the porridge finishes cooking and thickens.
-
Step 5:
When the time is up, take off the lid, taste it, and add sugar and/or salt if needed. Spoon it into bowls and add butter. My daughter says semolina porridge is her absolute favorite food!
- As it turns out, you should never boil semolina porridge! That's what makes it gluey, and a nasty skin forms on top as it cools. Let's make semolina porridge using my mom's recipe. This is the recipe I use to make porridge for my kids.
