Fish Napoleon with Red Fish
Original, impressive, beautiful — perfect for a party! Fish Napoleon with red fish is a recipe for a delicious, quick appetizer that will be the centerpiece of your holiday table. Since it uses ready-made pastry layers, it doesn't take long to put together.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make a fish Napoleon with red fish? Gather the ingredients. Use ready-made pastry layers and the whole thing comes together fast — though you can bake your own if you prefer. You can use salted or lightly smoked fish, like I did. It's best to freeze it slightly beforehand so it's easier to slice. Choose a plain cream cheese, since it's less salty — there will be plenty of salt from the fish and the roe.
-
Step 2:
Slice the red fish thin. Pre-sliced fish is even quicker and easier to use.
-
Step 3:
Divide the cream cheese into two equal portions.
-
Step 4:
Combine one portion of cheese with the cod roe. Instead of cod, you can use the roe of other fish — pollock, carp, pike, and so on. Try to pick roe without unnecessary additives (like oil or sauce).
-
Step 5:
Mix the cheese and roe together until smooth.
-
Step 6:
Place the first pastry layer on a flat dish or board suitable for serving.
-
Step 7:
Spread the layer with the cheese-and-cod-roe mixture.
-
Step 8:
Arrange the fish slices on top.
-
Step 9:
Spread the fish with a thin layer of plain cream cheese. Cover with the second pastry layer. Repeat the layers again — cheese with roe, fish, cream cheese. Then add the third and final pastry layer, and repeat once more: cheese with roe, fish, cheese.
-
Step 10:
The top layer should be plain cream cheese. Refrigerate the cake for 2 hours so it can soak. Before serving, garnish it with fresh herbs, vegetables, and red-fish roses. Your fish Napoleon is ready — serve it up. Enjoy!
