Cooking method

Cooking time: 40 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

Grate one medium boiled potato into its own bowl.

Using the large holes of a box grater, also grate 1 boiled carrot, 50 grams (about 1/2 cup) of hard cheese, and 2 boiled eggs, keeping each in a separate bowl.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Drain one can of mackerel, pick out the bones, and mash the fish well with a fork.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Finely chop a little dill — as much as you like.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Set a 12 x 12 cm (about 5-inch) ring mold on a plate and press in a layer of potato.

Spread a little mayonnaise over the top.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Add a layer of carrot, holding back a little for a later layer. Spread with mayonnaise.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

For the next layer, spread on the mashed mackerel and coat it well with mayonnaise.

    Sprinkle with the chopped dill.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Add a layer of grated cheese (any mild semi-firm cheese works) and spread with mayonnaise.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

Spread on the reserved carrot, level it out in the mold, and coat with mayonnaise.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9

For the final layer, use the 2 grated eggs. Spread them over the top and smooth into an even layer.

Chill in the refrigerator for 20 minutes so the salad can set.

  10. Step 10:

    Step 10

Lift off the ring mold and garnish however you like — I used green onion and pomegranate seeds.

    Enjoy, and happy holidays!
