Frozen Cherry Kissel

A delicious, wholesome kissel made from frozen cherries! It's a great drink for any day of the week, and just as fitting for a kids' party. Tasty and good for you — children adore it, and of course it's a treat for grown-ups too.

    1. Take the frozen cherries straight from the freezer and put them in the pot you'll be cooking in — there's no need to thaw them first. 2. Pour in 2.5 liters (about 10 1/2 cups) of water and set the pot over the heat. Once the water comes to a boil, cook the cherries for about 10 minutes, then strain through a sieve or cheesecloth. 3. Stir in the sugar and let the syrup simmer; while it does, mix up the starch. 4. Add the remaining half-liter (about 2 cups) of water to the starch and stir until smooth with no lumps, then pour it into the boiling syrup. Keep stirring, and as soon as the kissel starts to thicken, take the pot off the heat and let the drink cool.
