Make a wholesome breakfast for your family! I'm not one for a breakfast that's just a cup of coffee. The way I see it, breakfast should be healthy, tasty, and filling all at once. One such dish is barley porridge, which I like to make with milk. Give it a try!

- Rinse the grain a couple of times until the water runs completely clear (at this point you can cover the grain with water and let it soak for three hours to cut the cooking time to 15 minutes, but I didn't soak mine).
- Pour the water into a heavy-bottomed pot, set it over the heat, and bring to a boil.
- Add the sugar and salt to the boiling water, then the rinsed grain.
- After 7 minutes, once the porridge starts to thicken, pour in the milk and stir. Cook over low heat for 10 minutes.
- Stir a pat of butter into the finished porridge and leave it covered for 10 minutes.
- And that's it! Fragrant milk porridge is ready! Steamed under the lid, it's especially tender and soft.
