- First, rinse the rice well, then put it in a bowl and cover it with warm (but not hot) water. Let the rice soak for 1–2 hours. Once the time's up, rinse the rice again and put it in the steamer basket. If your slow cooker's basket or insert has large holes, don't worry—just line it with foil and poke lots of small holes in it. Spread the rice over the foil. Lightly sprinkle the jasmine rice with salt. Pour water into the slow cooker bowl and close the lid. Select the "Steam" setting, set the time to 40 minutes, and after the beep signals the program is done, leave the rice in the cooker for another 5 minutes. Your wonderfully tasty side dish is ready!
