"Rooster" Salad for Good Luck
A pretty, tasty salad shaped like a rooster — your family will love it! This layered salad of vegetables and smoked chicken is wonderfully appetizing and delicious, and it's beautiful and festive to boot. Treat your guests and make it for the New Year's table. The image of a rooster is said to bring good luck, since this bird is the patron of the coming year.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Boil all the vegetables in salted water, then cool and peel them. Hard-boil the eggs too, let them cool, and peel. Get the rest of the ingredients ready.
-
Step 2:
Grate the potatoes on the coarse side of a box grater. On a large flat platter, spread the grated potatoes into the shape of a rooster's head.
-
Step 3:
Spread mayonnaise over the potato layer, coating it well.
-
Step 4:
Cut the chicken into medium pieces and lay them over the mayonnaise.
-
Step 5:
Grate the beets and mix them with mayonnaise. Spread them as the next layer over the rooster, leaving the comb and beak areas bare. Set some beets aside for now.
-
Step 6:
Set half the carrots aside. Grate the rest and mix with mayonnaise. Spread the grated carrots over the beets and smooth them out.
-
Step 7:
Use the reserved beets to form the comb. Finely chop the egg whites and use them to decorate the rooster's head.
-
Step 8:
Grate the yolks and sprinkle them over the rooster's body. Decorate the neck and head with canned corn. Make the eye from a piece of olive, and mark the beak with olive pieces too. Cut the reserved carrots into matchsticks and use them to trim the bottom of the salad. Now the salad just needs to chill in the refrigerator for a few hours. Before serving, garnish the rooster with fresh herbs. Enjoy, and good luck in the new year!
