  • Fill a pot with water. Five tablespoons of sugar is what it needs right now—add it and set it on the heat. Wait for the water to come to a boil. As soon as it does, drop in the rhubarb and sprinkle in the hibiscus (karkade) tea, which acts as a "spice" that gives the drink a pleasant color and aroma. Cook for another five minutes, then turn off the heat. The compote just needs to cool before you can enjoy its unusual flavor.
