First you need to peel and seed the apples. Then grate them on a coarse grater. Sprinkle the apples with lemon juice and sprinkle with sugar. Then you need to peel the red onion, put it in a saucepan, cover it with sugar. When the onion has released the juice, put the pan on low heat and bring to a boil. Then add apples with lemon juice to the onion. Stir, cover the pan with a lid and cook on very low heat for about one hour (or an hour and a half). Check the readiness of the jam and, if it is ready, pour into jars.
Such onion jam goes well with meat dishes, as well as with various cheeses.
