Cottage Cheese Spread with Cucumber and Imitation Crab
It's always tasty, healthy, economical, and makes plenty! That's how quickly and easily you can put this dish together, with a totally no-frills set of ingredients. You'll agree — appetizers don't always have to be expensive. And how good this one is for you! Here you've got complete protein and the right carbohydrates, which is especially important for anyone watching their health. Try it, experiment, and enjoy the amazing combination of simplicity and zest!
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
For this appetizer you'll need the most inexpensive, simple ingredients: a pack of low-fat cottage cheese, a package of imitation crab meat, a cucumber, garlic, and dill.
-
Step 2:
Grate the slightly thawed imitation crab meat on a coarse grater.
-
Step 3:
Also grate a fresh cucumber on a coarse grater — it adds not only a bright taste but also color, plus a refreshing juiciness.
-
Step 4:
Next, add the grated garlic. Adjust the number of cloves to your taste — but don't forget that the appetizer should be zesty, and garlic plays a key role here. Also add the dill; mine is still frozen, but the aroma it gives off is wonderful! This way our dish gets not only a bright, rich taste but also a good dose of the vitamins our bodies need.
-
Step 5:
I use 5% cottage cheese, but you can use low-fat — it's up to you. At this stage, add the salt and dress with mayonnaise. Gently stir the spread with a spoon.
-
Step 6:
Put the spread in a container and store it in the refrigerator. This appetizer is one more reminder that healthy food can be really tasty!
-
Step 7:
The spread is so versatile! Just like that, quick and easy, you can serve it on sandwiches like mine — on a wheat bun or a slice of rye bread, whatever you prefer — for a completely homemade presentation. Such a sandwich is every bit as good as one with cheese or sausage.
- Any appetizer is an important part of both the holiday table and everyday meals. This one can be served in all sorts of ways: you can stuff lavash with it, serve it as a salad, or — for a festive option — serve it in tartlets, garnished with extra herbs and an olive. No doubt your imagination will suggest other serving ideas too.
