Sorrel Hand Pies
Delicious little pies with a taste reminiscent of wild strawberries. Sweet and tasty, with no sourness at all — the flavor and aroma bring wild strawberries to mind. Perfect with a cup of tea. And with a glass of cold milk, they taste downright magical!
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Gather all your ingredients ahead of time. Instead of kefir, you can use soured milk or plain buttermilk — whatever you have on hand.
-
Step 2:
Wash the sorrel, dry it well on a paper towel, and chop it finely with a knife.
-
Step 3:
Mash the chopped greens well with a wooden masher.
-
Step 4:
For the dough, take a deep bowl, pour in the kefir, add salt and the baking soda, and let bubbles form on the surface of the kefir.
-
Step 5:
Then add the egg and flour and knead a soft, not-too-stiff dough.
-
Step 6:
Roll the dough out into small rounds. Put a little of the sorrel filling in the center of each round, then add a little over half a teaspoon of sugar on top. Pinch them closed like ordinary hand pies.
-
Step 7:
Fry the pies in a skillet in vegetable oil over medium heat. They make a wonderful treat for tea. Enjoy!
