Pan-Fried Breaded Chicken

Incredibly tasty, juicy, and crispy — perfect for dinner! Pan-fried breaded chicken comes together fairly quickly, though it does need a good marinade first. The result is meltingly tender meat with a golden crust — a great choice for a family lunch or dinner.

Cooking method

  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you pan-fry breaded chicken? Gather the ingredients. You can use any parts of the chicken; I take a whole bird and cut it into pieces.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Rinse the cut-up chicken and pat it dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Sprinkle the pieces with lemon juice. Peel the garlic and press it through a garlic press. Rub the lemon and garlic into the chicken and let it marinate for 1 hour. You can leave it overnight, but if so, refrigerate it.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

For the breading, combine the breadcrumbs, paprika, turmeric, and salt in one bowl and stir together.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

In a second bowl, crack the eggs and beat them lightly with a whisk. Pour the flour into a third bowl.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Dredge each piece of chicken in flour, then dip it in egg, and coat it in the breadcrumbs.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Heat a skillet until hot and add the vegetable oil. Lay in the breaded chicken pieces without crowding them — I cooked in two skillets at once. Fry the chicken for 5–7 minutes per side. Use enough oil so the chicken fries up properly.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Covering the pan cooks the chicken faster, but you'll lose the crispy crust. To check for doneness, pierce the chicken with a knife — the juices should run clear. If they're pink, the chicken isn't done yet!

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

Serve the chicken hot, alongside a side dish or fresh vegetables. Enjoy!

  • You can swap the chicken for turkey or any other meat you like, but keep in mind that the cooking time and calorie count will change.
  • How can you tell if an egg is fresh? Crack it into a separate container. First, there should be no off smell. The white of a fresh egg is clear and clean, and the yolk holds its shape — shiny, domed, and even.
  • Here's an easy way to tell when the oil is hot enough: dip the tip of a wooden spatula into it. If bubbles gather around it, you're ready to start frying.
