Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Clean the membranes off the roe.
-
Step 2:
Crack the egg into a bowl and mix it thoroughly with the roe until you have a smooth, even mixture.
-
Step 3:
Add the breadcrumbs and mix everything well again. Season with salt. You can add your favorite herbs, too.
-
Step 4:
Add the milk.
-
Step 5:
Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet and spoon in the loose batter.
-
Step 6:
Fry the fritters on both sides. Blot off any excess oil by setting them on paper towels. They come out plump and fluffy.
- Today I was cooking fish and had some roe left over to use up, so I decided to make roe fritters. What kind of fish? Whiting — the cheapest fish at our stores. But you can use any unsalted fish roe. I make my own breadcrumbs from leftover bread and rolls; it turns out much cheaper than store-bought, and you know exactly what went into them. So let's get started — the amounts are up to you.
