  • This recipe might strike some people as a little unusual, but don't jump to conclusions — try it first. For anyone who hasn't heard, pears with cheese make a wonderful appetizer to go with any drink. My girlfriends and I love them with tequila. I personally really enjoy the aftertaste it leaves. That said, not everyone likes garlic, and there's garlic in here — though you can swap fresh garlic for dried, which has a milder taste and far less punchy smell. Set three pears aside and cut two into rounds no more than 5 mm thick. Blend softened butter with the cheese until smooth, then mix in a crushed clove of garlic and stir well. Warm the pear rounds in a skillet until soft, then combine them with the cheese mixture and stir again. Now carefully cut the three reserved pears into rounds and top each one with the filling. And that's it — your pears with cheese are ready to serve! One more tip: for this recipe, use pears that are sweet but not too juicy. I usually swap the butter for a sandwich margarine with no animal fat — there you go!
