Crab Stick, Cheese, and Garlic Salad

A very easy salad to make. You can use any cheese for this salad (Lambert, Russian), but I like a hard, dryish type best - like Parmigiano or Gruyère. With it, the salad's flavor opens up in a whole new way. To make the salad more tender and uniform, you can grate the cheese and crab sticks and mix the herbs and garlic into the mayonnaise.

  • It's better to make the mayonnaise yourself - it's tastier and better for you. See some interesting homemade mayonnaise recipes here. You can also use sour cream or plain yogurt as a dressing instead of mayonnaise. Use them on their own or mix them with mayonnaise in any ratio you like - this will cut the dish's calories.
  • How do you buy crab sticks the right way? Be sure to check the product's expiration date. Surimi (minced white fish) should be first on the ingredient list. Important! Don't buy the product if it has frost on it - that's a sign it's been refrozen. Fresh sticks should be free of gray and yellow spots, springy, and slightly moist. If the product is sticky, it's spoiled.
