Cooking method

Cooking time: 20 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make a salad with egg, cheese, corn, and cucumber? Gather your ingredients. Put the corn in a sieve to drain off the liquid. You can swap the green olives for black ones. You can use yellow bell pepper, or two colors.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Hard-boil the eggs. How do you hard-boil eggs? Cover them with water and bring them to a boil. Cook the eggs over moderate heat for 7 to 8 minutes from the boil. Drain the water. Cover the boiled eggs with cold water to cool them — the temperature change makes the shell easier to peel. Peel the cooled eggs and cut them into small cubes.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Wash and dry the bell pepper. Cut it open and remove the stem and seeds. Cut the pepper into small cubes.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Take the olives out of the jar and put them on a plate to drain off the excess liquid. Cut each olive into 3 or 4 pieces, depending on size.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Wash and dry the cucumber. Cut it into small cubes. You can peel it if you like.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Grate the hard cheese on a fine grater.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

You can layer the salad in a ring (5 to 6 inches / 14 to 16 cm in diameter), or just toss all the prepared ingredients together in a bowl. For the first layer, spread the corn, smooth it out, and drizzle mayonnaise over the top.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

Next, add the boiled eggs. Smooth and press the layer down with a spoon, then spread it with mayonnaise.

  9. Step 9:

    Step 9

Spread the olives out, press them down, and spread with mayonnaise.

  10. Step 10:

    Step 10

The next layer is the cut cucumber, and mayonnaise again.

  11. Step 11:

    Step 11

Add the bell pepper and drizzle with mayonnaise.

  12. Step 12:

    Step 12

Finish the salad with the grated cheese. You can serve the salad right away or chill it a little first. Lift off the serving ring before serving.

  13. Step 13:

    Step 13

    Enjoy!

  • The salad looks neat and attractive if you cut all the ingredients into pieces of the same size and shape (cubes, for instance).
  • How do you buy canned corn well? Always check the date on the can. If it's in a glass jar, look closely at the kernels — they should be uniform in size and color, whole, and unblemished. The ingredient list shouldn't include dyes, preservatives, or flavor enhancers.
  • It's better to make your own mayonnaise — tastier and healthier. See some good homemade mayonnaise recipes here. You can also use sour cream or plain yogurt as the dressing instead of mayonnaise, on their own or mixed with mayonnaise in any ratio you like — this lightens the dish.
