Cooking method
There are many recipes for various sauces in Irish cuisine. You can serve breadcrumbs sauce with any dish – meat, fish, poultry. It will emphasize the taste of any food. You can cook it very quickly, which is convenient if you are in a hurry or busy with another dish.
Put the onion and cloves in a saucepan with bay leaf and pour the milk. Preheat the milk so that it absorbs the smell, but do not bring it to a boil. Remove the pan from the heat and put the bread in it. Be sure to cut off the crust from the bread beforehand, otherwise the sauce will be bitter. Leave it there until it absorbs the milk. After that, put the pan back on the fire and bring to a boil. Then carefully remove the cloves and bay leaf and bring to a boil again. Make sure that the sauce does not boil out, and stir it thoroughly with a spoon.
Still warm sauce should be whipped well with a whisk. Add oil, nutmeg, salt and pepper to it. Stir the resulting sauce well and pour it into a heated dish for serving.
