Cooking method

Cooking time: 15 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make a salad of crab sticks, tomatoes, eggs, and cheese? Gather the ingredients. Take the crab sticks (or crab meat) out of the fridge ahead of time so they thaw completely. Hard-boil the eggs in advance, then cool them in cold water. Use a hard cheese with a mild flavor. To dress the salad, you can use either mayonnaise or a mix of mayonnaise and sour cream.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Take the thawed crab sticks out of the package. The film each crab stick is wrapped in sometimes peels off poorly. To make it easier, hold the sticks over steam for 1–3 seconds. Cut the crab sticks into small cubes and put them in your chosen salad bowl.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Peel the boiled, cooled eggs and grate them on a coarse grater. Add the grated eggs to the salad bowl. You can also dice them instead.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Rinse the fresh tomatoes under cold running water and pat them dry with a towel. Cut the tomatoes into small cubes and add them to the salad bowl with the other ingredients. For this salad, choose small tomatoes that aren't overripe, with firm walls and juicy flesh. Don't use overly watery tomatoes.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Take the hard cheese out of its package and grate it on a coarse grater. Add the cheese to the salad.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Peel the garlic cloves and press them through a garlic press (or grate them on a fine grater), then add the minced garlic to the salad. Dress the salad with mayonnaise and stir. Taste for salt and add more if needed.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Serve the salad right after you make it. It will brighten up both an everyday meal and a festive spread.

  8. Step 8:

    Step 8

You can also serve this salad layered on an individual plate (using a serving ring) or in a salad bowl. The layers go in the order of the steps above, but here you spread each layer with a little mayonnaise mixed with minced garlic. When serving, garnish the salad with fresh dill or parsley. Enjoy!

  • How do you hard-boil eggs? To keep the eggs from cracking as they cook, put them in cold water and cook them over low heat. Boil the eggs for 9 minutes after the water comes to a boil, then cover them with cold water to cool. The sudden change in temperature makes the shells easier to peel.
  • How do you buy crab sticks the right way? Always check the product's expiration date. Surimi (minced white fish) should be listed first in the ingredients. Important! Don't buy the product if there's frost on it — that's a sign it's been refrozen. Fresh sticks should be free of gray and yellow spots, firm, and slightly moist. If the product feels sticky, it's gone bad.
  • It's better to make the mayonnaise yourself — it'll be tastier and healthier. See some interesting homemade mayonnaise recipes here. You can also dress the salad with sour cream or plain yogurt instead of mayonnaise. Use them on their own or mixed with mayonnaise in any ratio you like — that will cut down the calories.
