Seafood Medley Soup

You can add tomato paste or fresh tomatoes to the soup. I mostly eat seafood medley pickled, so I decided to try it cooked. I wouldn't recommend using squid here — it can turn very tough. If you want to add it, it's best to do so right at the very end, 1–2 minutes before the soup is done.

  • A frozen seafood medley can be described as an assortment of seafood. The mix of ingredients varies from one producer to another. It may include crustaceans, bivalves, cephalopods, and even echinoderms. Most often the mix consists of squid, shrimp, octopus, and mussels. This soup comes out very low in calories thanks to the lack of extra carbs and fat — exactly what seafood is prized for. Seafood contains amino acids, the fat-soluble vitamins A, E, D, and PP, and plenty of trace elements that benefit the endocrine glands and the metabolism. The sea creatures in this product are considered clean (despite the general pollution of the world's oceans). Compared with animals raised by people for food, they aren't pumped full of hormones and antibiotics. Seafood contains the very beneficial amino acid taurine, which helps normalize blood pressure and blood sugar. A seafood medley is a treasure trove of iodine, which is essential for people with thyroid conditions. The fat in seafood is healthier than animal fat — eating it helps normalize the body's fat metabolism and slows the progression of atherosclerosis.
