Oatmeal with Fruit

A tasty breakfast to set you up for a good day! Oatmeal with fruit is a hit with grown-ups and kids alike — it comes out so tasty, sweet, bright, and fragrant. The recipe suggests fresh or canned peaches, but any fruit works, especially soft, sweet ones like ripe pears, orange or tangerine segments, melon, or banana. Use plant-based milk and skip the sugar for a wholesome version that suits a healthy lifestyle.

  • Just about everyone who likes sweet oatmeal has bought those single-serving instant packets at the store. They're tasty, sure, but not very good for you because of all the added sugar and sometimes other additives — and they're really not what you want to give kids for breakfast. The fix is simple: make oatmeal with fruit yourself. It's tastier, far healthier, and more varied, since you can add any fruit you like or combine several. The only prep is the fruit — wash, peel if needed, and cut into small pieces. The recipe calls for peaches, but anything works, ideally juicy, sweet, and soft. It's also good with a tart apple. In a saucepan, combine the oats, brown sugar, a pinch of salt, and the ground cinnamon. The cinnamon is optional, and you can swap the brown sugar for white or leave it out entirely — if the fruit is sweet, you really don't need a sweetener. Stir, pour in the milk and water, stir again, and add the fruit.
  • Set the saucepan over medium heat, bring it to a boil, then lower the heat to a minimum, cover, and cook the oats for the time on the package. You can also make it in the microwave or a slow cooker, using the "Porridge" or "Express grains" setting.
  • Pour cream over the finished oatmeal and serve it hot. It's tasty, wholesome, and quick!
  • Good morning, and have a great day!
