- Anise seeds release essential oils that aid digestion. They also have disinfecting properties. Anise liqueur is colorless but has a rich aroma and a slightly sweet flavor. I'll share three different recipes for making anise liqueur. Recipe one. Wrap the anise seeds in a cloth bag and put it in a bottle. Then pour in the vodka and let it steep for at least a week, ideally two. To keep the bag of anise from floating up, you can drop in a small pebble. Recipe two. Put the listed ingredients into a container of the right size, pour in the vodka, and let it steep for about two weeks. Recipe three. This is a way of making not so much the liqueur itself as a variation of it. Pour vodka over the anise seeds and let them steep. From the sugar and water, make a sugar syrup, then mix it hot with the strained infusion, and add the spices and orange zest. Let it steep in a suitable container for about 4 days, shaking it occasionally. Then bottle it and wait about six months for it to fully come into its own. Chill the anise liqueur before serving.
