Berry-and-Fruit Compote

Berry-forward, refreshing, with a pleasant hint of honeysuckle bitterness! It has a sweet-tart flavor and a light berry aroma. Not too sweet — tasty and good for you. There are no preservatives or artificial flavors in this homemade drink, so kids can enjoy it right alongside the grown-ups. It's wonderfully refreshing and you can make it year-round. This compote is a great alternative to boxed juices!

  • It couldn't be simpler: 1. Bring the water to a boil, add the sugar, and let it simmer for a couple of minutes. 2. Add thin slices of washed apple, a couple of slices of citrus, and the berries — stir, then drop in the currant and mint leaves (fresh or dried). 3. Let it return to a boil, turn off the stove, and leave it on the burner to cool (lid tightly closed). 4. Let it steep in a cool place for about 8 hours to develop full flavor and aroma, then drink it strained and chilled. It's handy to make it in the evening and let it steep overnight. You can use frozen berries and fruit — it'll be just as tasty.
