Barley Porridge with Water and Milk

A wonderful breakfast porridge! Tasty, simple, nourishing! Everyone in our family loves porridge, and I make it all sorts of ways — sweet, savory, fluffy, creamy. Each time it's a new dish with its own special charm and flavor. I usually make sweet milk porridges for breakfast, sometimes adding dried fruit.   • Prep the grain: rinse it in cold water a couple of times.
  • Pour the water into a pot, set it over the heat, and bring to a boil.
  • Add the rinsed grain to the boiling water, along with the salt and sugar.
  • When the porridge starts to thicken, pour in the milk and cook until fully done.
  • Cover the pot, wrap it in a terry towel, and let the porridge rest for 20 minutes.
  • Spoon into bowls, add a pat of butter to each serving, and garnish as you like — with berries or pieces of fruit, for instance.
