Loose Barley Porridge with Milk

A great breakfast for the whole family — give it a try! Milk porridge is my weakness, and I've happily gotten my whole family hooked on it too. The one quirk of my taste is that I don't like fluffy, thick porridges. So I want to share my recipe for a loose, milky barley porridge.

  • Put the barley groats in a bowl, add water, and stir to wash off any dust and husks. Pour off whatever floats to the top and rinse the grain again.
  • Put the cleaned barley in a pot, add hot water, and set it over the heat. Once it boils, lower the heat and cook for about 20 minutes on low.
  • Bring the milk to a boil in a small saucepan, pour it into the porridge, add the salt, and stir. Simmer over very low heat for 10 minutes, then add a pat of butter, cover the pot, and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes.
  • The barley porridge is ready!
  • Enjoy — here's to a good mood and good health!
