    Classic forshmak is made from herring with onion, butter, white bread, egg, tart apple, milk, salt, and pepper.

    Hard-boil an egg and soak a couple of slices of white bread in milk. Peel the egg and the apple.

    Put the prepared ingredients into the bowl of a food processor or meat grinder.

    Add the squeezed-out bread and grind until smooth. Mix with the softened butter and chill.
