Cooking method

Cooking time: 10 min

We'll build this smoothie on a base of nettle tea. Steep 1 tablespoon of dried nettle leaves (or 2 ready-made tea bags) in 1 cup of hot water; cover and let cool. Then strain it and pour it into the blender.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Add the berries to the blender — 1/2 cup pitted cherries and 1/4 cup cranberries. Banana is a very popular smoothie ingredient — it adds sweetness and body. Toss in the apple, seeds and all.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Soak a tablespoon of chia seeds in 1/2 cup of water for several hours (overnight works too); you'll get a gel-like substance. Add it to the blender. Chia seeds (also called Spanish sage) have a mild, nutty taste and are loaded with essential omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. A single tablespoon of chia seeds has as much calcium as a glass of milk.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

For a little zing and an extra health boost, add a pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg. Blend for 60 seconds until smooth. Pour into a glass with a straw!
