Homemade Tomato Paste Ketchup
Want to know what's actually in ketchup? Make it at home from simple ingredients! Store ketchup usually has a slew of stabilizers, dyes, sweeteners, and acidifiers (and beyond that — pepperizers, hotteners…) that aren't exactly natural. E-numbers, preservatives, and the like are in almost everything we buy at the store. So it's best to make everything at home — your health stays in good shape, and the savings are obvious. For this ketchup, the most important thing is to choose a good tomato paste. After that, it's a piece of cake.
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
Peel an onion and cut off half of it. If the onion is large, a quarter is enough.
-
Step 2:
Put a spoonful of sugar into a cup.
-
Step 3:
Pour in boiling water, stir, and let it cool.
-
Step 4:
Put the onion in the same cup and blend it. We need a completely smooth mixture. If your blender leaves lumps of onion, strain the sugar-onion water afterward.
-
Step 5:
Put the tomato paste in a bowl and add the salt, mustard, and spices. You can adjust the mix and amount of spices to your taste.
-
Step 6:
Add the water a little at a time and stir. If you like thick ketchup, you'll need less water.
-
Step 7:
Homemade tomato paste ketchup is ready! Serve it with meat or French fries, or use it to make other dishes and sauces.
- Enjoy!
