Cooking method

Cooking time: 5 min
  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make a salad with basil, tomatoes, and cheese? The main ingredient in the salad is tomatoes. In season, they're juicy, fragrant, meaty, and very tasty! In winter, it's better to make the salad with cherry tomatoes or use both types. Cherry tomatoes have a sweet, rich taste and add a special note. So, wash the tomatoes and basil sprigs, peel the onion, and rinse it under running water.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

Cut the tomatoes into small wedges, halve the cherry tomatoes, and leave the smallest tomatoes whole.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Cut the onion (I'm using shallot, but any kind works) into thin slivers or half-rings, whichever you're used to.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Put the tomatoes and chopped onion in a deep bowl or salad bowl.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Add any soft cheese to the salad (I'm using pot cheese; you can use cottage cheese, brined cheese, or feta — your choice), and you can use more or less of it. Finely chop the washed and dried basil and add it to the salad too.

  6. Step 6:

    Step 6

Dress the tomatoes and cheese with vegetable oil (olive or canola oil work well here, but absolutely any kind will do). Season with salt to taste and sprinkle with allspice.

  7. Step 7:

    Step 7

Before serving, toss the salad well and let it rest for about five minutes. In that time, the tomatoes will release their juice, which in turn soaks up the aromas of the basil and onion.

  • Pot cheese (like cottage cheese) is very good for you — it's a source of calcium and protein.
  • This kind of cottage cheese and cheese contains essential amino acids, ascorbic acid, minerals, iron, B vitamins, and much more. Since pot cheese has very little fat and, on the other hand, a large amount of valuable milk protein, it's an ideal food for athletes and for people on a diet. Cottage cheese pairs beautifully with fruits and vegetables and works in many salads. You can serve this tomato salad with meat, potatoes, or pasta. It's divine to dip a fresh crust of bread into the fragrant dressing alongside the tomatoes. On hot summer days, you can chill the salad in the refrigerator for 10-20 minutes before eating. Enjoy!
  • To keep your eyes from stinging when you slice onions, rinse the onion and the knife in cold water. The cutting board won't pick up the unpleasant onion smell if you rub it with a piece of lemon before slicing.
