Cooking method

  1. Step 1:

    Step 1

How do you make homemade ice cream from sour cream and condensed milk? Prepare the ingredients. Use fresh sour cream with 20% fat, and pay attention to how thick it is. For ice cream, it's best used straight from the fridge. Choose cocoa powder and condensed milk from brands you trust. I'll be using an ice cream maker, so chill its bowl in the freezer ahead of time. Get a freezer-safe container ready too.

  2. Step 2:

    Step 2

In a deep bowl, combine the condensed milk, cold sour cream, and sifted cocoa powder (so there are no lumps in the ice cream). You can use more or less cocoa powder to suit your taste.

  3. Step 3:

    Step 3

Mix everything until smooth. You can use a mixer or just a whisk.

  4. Step 4:

    Step 4

Pour the liquid mixture into the ice cream maker's bowl and run the machine for 40 minutes. When it's done, transfer the ice cream to a container and put it in the freezer. If you don't have an ice cream maker, pour the liquid mixture straight into a container and freeze it. After an hour, take the container out and stir the contents so ice crystals don't form and the ice cream stays smooth and airy. Repeat this 2-3 times.

  5. Step 5:

    Step 5

Take the frozen ice cream out of the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes. Using an ice cream scoop, portion it into bowls and sprinkle with grated chocolate and any topping you like (chocolate or caramel work well). It's best not to leave the ice cream out for long - it melts fairly quickly.

  • Made this way, the ice cream comes out very tasty - just sweet enough, not cloying, with a noticeable tang from the sour cream. Of course, it's not like the store-bought ice cream we're used to, but it's every bit as good. And since it's made with nothing but natural ingredients, you can serve it to children without worry. Kids love it too - at least mine did.
