Potato and Turnip Mash — a Side for Meatballs
A superb side that beautifully rounds out everyone's favorite meatballs! The gentle flavor of mashed potatoes with turnip is both tasty and wholesome. I used to serve meat cutlets with just a single side — potatoes, rice, or buckwheat — and the meal came out rather ordinary. Then one day, while making cutlets yet again, I had the idea to put together something more interesting and delicious. After a little searching in my favorite cookbook, I found exactly what I needed: this side dish for meat cutlets.

Start by boiling the potatoes and turnip in separate pots for about 20 minutes, until fully tender.

Then drain the water, leaving the cooked vegetables in the pots.

Now purée the vegetables with a blender or run them through a meat grinder.

Then add the cream, butter, and onion, and season with salt, black pepper, and a little nutmeg. Keep whipping the vegetables until the mixture is smooth, then spoon it onto plates alongside the main dish — the cutlets.
