- This is a great drink for the cold months. Mulled wine warms you right up and even helps when you're fighting a cold. And making it is a fun little ritual, perfect for a quiet evening at home. I want to share a super-easy recipe for a hot spiked drink using a special mulling spice blend you can find at the supermarket. It has all the right spices in just the right proportions, so there's no way to overdo it and ruin two liters of wine. Keep in mind, too, that the wine for mulled wine can — and should — be a cheap one! This recipe turns it into a delicious drink, so simmering pricey wine for it would be a bit of a waste. So, pour the wine into a pot and set it over low heat. Peel the apples and tangerines and cut them into fairly large pieces — don't toss the peel. Squeeze the tangerine juice into the wine and drop in the squeezed tangerines and the apples. Add the seasoning; I'd suggest not emptying the whole packet. I also add a whole cinnamon stick, because I love it — but that's up to your taste. Warm the wine, stirring, but under no circumstances let it boil! Pour it into teacups and warm up. :)
