Oven-Baked Pork Kebabs on a Sheet Pan
Really tasty and easy — no grill required! Pork kebabs baked on a sheet pan in the oven come out every bit as good as ones cooked over coals. The only thing missing is that smoky aroma — but you can add that too, with a splash of liquid smoke if you like!
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make oven-baked pork kebabs on a sheet pan? Gather the ingredients you'll need. For the pork, choose neck (shoulder) or tenderloin — cuts like these won't dry out during baking.
-
Step 2:
Cut the meat into small chunks, about 1.5 x 1.5 in (3 x 3 cm) or 1.5 x 1.5 in (4 x 4 cm).
-
Step 3:
Peel the onion, rinse it in cool water, and chop it finely. Scrunch the chopped onion with your hands to help it release its juices faster. Add the onion to the bowl with the meat, then add your meat seasoning and the dried basil. For seasoning I use a mix of ground peppers, but you can swap the dried basil for any other dried aromatic herbs. Mix everything together and let it marinate for 2–3 hours.
-
Step 4:
Wooden skewers work well for these kebabs. While the meat marinates, soak the skewers in water — that way they soak up moisture and won't scorch in the oven.
-
Step 5:
When the marinating is done, add salt to the meat and stir. Thread the meat onto the skewers and set them across a baking pan — choose one where the meat is suspended above the surface. Bake in an oven preheated to 400°F (200°C) for 25–30 minutes, adjusting for your own oven.
-
Step 6:
The finished kebabs will be nicely browned. Transfer them to a platter and serve. Enjoy!
- Everyone's palate is different when it comes to salt, sweetness, heat, and tang, so always add spices and seasonings to your own taste! If you're using a seasoning for the first time, remember that some are easy to overdo (chili pepper, for one).
- You can use any other meat in place of pork here. Just keep in mind that the cooking time, flavor, and calorie count will change — beef takes longer than pork, while chicken breast or turkey takes less.
- Keep in mind that every oven is different, so your temperature and cooking time may vary from what's listed here. Get to know your own oven's quirks to make sure any baked dish turns out well.
