Lemon Ginger Turmeric Honey Drink
An excellent way to ward off colds! A drink made from ginger, turmeric, lemon, and honey has wonderful healing properties and helps strengthen the immune system. At the first signs of a cold, it can stand in for pills. It's also great for anyone losing weight, staying active, and looking after their health!
Cooking method
-
Step 1:
How do you make a drink from lemon, ginger, turmeric, and honey? Very simply and quickly. First, gather the ingredients from the list. The amounts of honey, lemon, ginger, and turmeric can be adjusted to your taste. You can swap the honey for sugar or another sweetener. Fresh ginger can be replaced with 2 tablespoons of dried.
-
Step 2:
Since the lemon is used in the drink with its peel, wash the fruit thoroughly, scrub it with a brush, and rinse again. Then cut the lemon in half and squeeze out the juice. It's easiest to do this with a manual or electric juicer.
-
Step 3:
Using a grater, remove the thin yellow layer of zest, trying not to catch the bitter white part. It's the white pith that makes drinks bitter. The less of it in the drink, the less bitter it will be.
-
Step 4:
Peel the ginger root and cut it into small cubes or grate it on a fine grater. It's the ginger that gives the drink its kick. So if you want a milder drink, cut the amount of ginger in half.
-
Step 5:
Put the chopped ginger and lemon zest into a saucepan. Pour in the water. Set the pan over medium heat and bring to a boil. Cook, stirring, for 5–7 minutes.
-
Step 6:
Add the turmeric and cook for another 5 minutes.
-
Step 7:
Strain the resulting drink through a sieve or cheesecloth and let it cool.
-
Step 8:
While the drink is still warm, add the lemon juice and honey. Stir thoroughly until the honey is fully dissolved.
-
Step 9:
Pour the drink into glasses. You can serve it warm or chilled. Enjoy!
- For the best result, use filtered or bottled water with a neutral taste. If you use tap water, keep in mind that it can give the drink an unpleasant off-flavor.
- The recipe can be added to and varied. For example, you can swap the lemon for grapefruit or add some lime. The flavor will change — experiment and find what you like best.
- IMPORTANT! Nutritionists do not recommend drinks of this kind for people who are allergic to one or more of the ingredients, or who suffer from kidney failure, chronic conditions of the internal organs, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, or gastrointestinal disorders. Approach any diet or treatment sensibly!
