  • Here's an excellent recipe from Brazilian cuisine that comes together in one-two-three, in the most literal sense. See for yourself: banana dessert, at your service. First, gently mix the powdered sugar with the cocoa powder so the whole mixture doesn't scatter everywhere (which happens all too often). Then toast the chopped walnuts in a dry skillet without oil (you can also use hazelnuts or almonds). Let them cool. Peel the bananas and slice them into rounds. Whip the cream to stiff peaks. Now take each banana slice, roll it in the cocoa and powdered sugar on both sides, and pile them into a pretty mound in a wide, short-stemmed glass (a dessert glass works too). Once you've built an impressive little hill, crown it with a dome of whipped cream and shower the whole thing with toasted chopped walnuts. A sweet treat like this is served right after it's made. Eat it with a small long-handled spoon — though a tiny fork is even better, since it spears the banana slices nicely.
