Chinese-Style Salad

The East moves in mysterious ways! This salad wins you over with its flavor and how easy it is to make. Salads are a relatively recent addition to Chinese cooking, but they've settled right in. This Chinese-style salad has become a familiar dish here at home, too. Its elegance and refinement come from everyday ingredients seasoned the way Chinese cooks do it.

  • This salad is nourishing and good for you, and it dresses up any table with a festive touch. Cut the onion, pork, and carrot into matchsticks and sauté each one separately in a skillet. Mince the garlic — and just like that, the aroma fills the kitchen! Cut the potatoes into thin matchsticks as well. Put the potatoes in a colander and lower it into boiling salted water; cook until tender, then rinse under cold water. Now toss all the components together and dress the salad with a mixture of soy sauce, the spices called for in the recipe, oil, and sugar. Let it rest a while, then serve. Garnish however you like — pine nuts and lettuce leaves are lovely.
